(1) Breakdown strength

When the electric field strength in the insulating material is higher than a certain value, the insulating material will be damaged and lose its insulating properties. This phenomenon is called breakdown. This electric field strength is the breakdown strength in kv/mm.

(2) Heat resistance There are many factors that affect the aging of insulating materials, mainly thermal factors. Insulation materials are divided into 7 heat-resistant grades according to the maximum temperature allowed during use, and their respective limit working temperature is specified, and attention should be paid to different use.

(3) Insulation resistance

The tiny leakage current of the insulating material consists of two parts, one part flows through the inside of the insulating material, and the other part flows along the surface of the insulating material, so the surface resistivity and volume resistivity of the insulating material are different. Surface resistivity and volume resistivity are usually compared for various insulating materials.

(4) Mechanical strength

All kinds of insulating materials have corresponding tensile, compressive, shear, impact and other strength indicators, in some special occasions should consult its performance indicators can be used.

The use of insulating materials should also consider its oil resistance, permeability, elongation, shrinkage, solvent resistance, arc resistance, etc.
